Gratitude in this Season of Thanksgiving

To my friends,

All of us have heard of the Golden Rule, “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that man should do to you, do ye even so to them.” How many of us connect this Rule to the Law upon which it is based, the Law of the Harvest, “. . . for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap”?

I have a little plot of ground in my back yard in which I will plant tomatoes next Spring. I expect that if I water it properly and let Nature take its course, I will harvest a crop of delectable tomatoes in the late Summer and early Fall. And that’s just the point. My plants will produce tomatoes–only tomatoes.

The human mind can be likened to those tomato plants in my back yard. Our minds will produce what we plant in them, and only what we plant in them. Our minds don’t care. Our actions become the products of the thoughts we plant in them, hence the importance of the Law of the Harvest.

The Law of the Harvest is just that, a Law. What we sow, we reap. I believe that America in the Age of Trump is not a happy country for that very reason. Hatred appears to be the coin of the realm in our country today. Appearances, however, are often deceiving because they don’t tell the whole story. Our story is not yet complete. It has not yet been fully written.

We have a choice, you and I. In the midst of the turmoil surrounding us, we can choose, in our own way, to work to put things right. We can choose to look for the good in other people. We can work to make our democracy live up to its promise. Why do so many people keep coming here? We have so much to be grateful for! We will celebrate Thanksgiving Day next Thursday.

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all! God Bless America.
