Why do they buy? Benjamin Franklin once observed that “the bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.” In economics, the Law of Demand states that, all things being equal, there is an inverse relationship between the price of a good and the willingness of the customer to buy it. The lower the price, the more consumers will be willing to buy—maybe. As consumers, we want value for the money we spend. If we view goods as merely cheap rather than good bargains, we don’t buy them. We want quality. We want value.
As businesspeople, I believe that our ability to build profitable relationships with our customers depends upon the quality of the service that we offer. The better our service, the better our compensation. It is the Law of the Harvest. We reap what we sow, and only what we sow. Have you ever wondered what it means to be trustworthy? It’s a combination of professional competence plus integrity. As difficult as we may find our current circumstances, I truly believe that this is our time to shine, to lay the groundwork for future prosperity.
